You would be hard-pressed in the 1940s to find a schoolchild or sea-faring man not familiar with the slogan “Tight Grips Sink Ships,” a reference to the ongoing problem of cargo and passenger ships being sunk by increasing number of hellish sea-beasts. With this awareness campaign, as well as the submarine monster hunters, the SMASH Squad was slowly able to beat back the tentacled menace to acceptable levels.
